Why is there runtime view and history view for process instances and not just one?

Hello,

I use cockpit from time to time and am somewhat disappointed by the fact that there are two separate views for a process instance: the runtime and the history one.

I understand that the underlying data are stored in two sets of DB tables. But for me as a user it would be much more convenient if I had just one view for the process instance with a particular instanceId. In that view, I should be able to see what steps have already been executed, whether there are active incidents etc.

Many times I found myself wondering why some data is not there – just to find out that I’m in the wrong process view.

IMO the cockpit is now more DB oriented than user oriented. Has it been discussed before? I could not find any related threads here on the forum.

Thank you for the information.
