The Task after timer event intermittently throws Exception while instantiating class

Setup: Spring Boot Application
DB: PostgreSQL

Hi, We have a service task having Java Class Implementation after a intermediate timer catch event.

After the job Executor picks the requests it throws exception as ‘ENGINE-09017 Cannot load class ‘com.test.LoanRequest’: com.test.LoanRequest’ intermittently.

I checked on other posts on the forum and according to this Doc we have set jobExecutorDeploymentAware as true but still the issue is not resolved. Please help on this.

How many spring boot applications are running?
Are they connected to the same DB?
Are the all identical? (i.e. the same deployments and java classes?)

There is one more spring boot application running with camunda as well in the same server and DB. But none of the java class files are identical.

How many nodes do you have?
Is Camunda clustered and are all clusters equal?

There is only one node and also no clustering is done for camunda.

you set up a heterogenous cluster, maybe accidentially?

@Ingo_Richtsmeier I went through the video and tried the solution provided there i.e checking Asynchronous Before option for the service task. But the percentage of failures increased to 40% from 5% with the same exception as mentioned above.

It is happening intermittently with high load only.

Hi @ManoharG

  • Just wanted to confirm if you have set the jobExecutorDeploymentAware to true in all spring boot applications (not just the one which contains this BPMN process). Could you please check and confirm? Basically, in heterogenous set up, jobExecutorDeploymentAware should be set to true in all applications, otherwise it would lead to unexpected issues.
  • Also is there any chance that same BPMN process is deployed in multiple applications? Could you please check?

  • There are two different Spring boot Applications and jobExecutorDeploymentAware is set to true on both.
  • This BPMN process is deployed with one Spring boot Application only and also the class files are different as well.
  • There is no dependencies on class files or deployment artifacts between these applications except that one app initiates the request to other app via REST call.

The application.txt contains wrong property for job executor deployment aware.

It should be “camunda.bpm.job-execution.deployment-aware”.
