Plugin for editing Element Templates

I’ve implemented an element template where I can choose a property of a predefined “dropdown”. Now I want to add an entry to this dropdown-list. Would it be possible to do that directly in the modeler by building a plugin that can edit the JSON file?

I could imagine a button beneath the dropdown where I can add an entry.
